Folklore Gin
Folklore Gin
This packaging project was born from a decent amount of research, a randomly selected liquor bottle and logo, and a literal amount of storytelling. After randomly selecting a swan logo and nondescript liquor bottle, I needed to narrow down options so I chose gin as my drink or choice and got to researching…
Labels
While researching I stumbled onto the story of The Children of Lir. Four children turned into swans, it was a perfect fit to my randomly selected logo choice. Due to my own lineage in Ireland, I created a distillery based there called Swanson Spirits that had a series called Folklore Gin, basing their concoctions on Irish folktales. The Children of Lir being their best seller in the series.
Packaging
I took a lot of inspiration from Irish knots, and juniper berry’s coloring to guide the visuals for the label and packing. Due to the folktale quality to the business, I wanted both the label and the packaging to share the story behind the gin. All these choices accumulated in a truly unique company and a one of a kind gin.
The ancient Irish story, “The Children of Lir” tells the tale of how an evil stepmother transformed her four children into swans in order to take possession of their father’s estate. The daughter Aobh was turned into a beautiful white swan while the sons were changed into grey ones. Their time spent as birds marked them with special powers and they had to fly over vast bodies of water each day until finally after 300 years they are released back into human form once again by Saint Patrick himself who baptized all five on Christmas Day at Tara Hill near Dublin.
